Skymark Airlines handled 3.0 million passengers, a 49% year-on-year increase for the six months ended September 2011. A similar trend is expected to continue into 2012. Skymark commenced services in September 1998 and is today Japan’s 3rd largest carrier.

Skymark Airlines is based in Tokyo (Haneda) Japan and operates an all B737-800 fleet comprised of 22 aircraft configured with 177 seats and an average fleet age of 2.5 years. Skymark is currently expanding its B737-800 fleet and is expected to increase to 30 aircraft by early 2013.

A landmark order for 6 Airbus A380s, was placed in February 2011 as part of its growth plans to expand their regional operations from a domestic LCC model to a long-haul international carrier. The A380 plans to initially operate on Japan (Narita) - Europe routes in 2014 with destinations including London and Frankfurt, followed by services to North America, initially to New York.

From there Skymark aim to expand services, with more aircraft, to cities such as Los Angeles, Sydney, Melbourne and Singapore. Future destinations may also include Honolulu, Vancouver, Melbourne, Bangkok, Singapore and Rome.

The airline currently has over 250 pilots, including pilots from the United States, Spain, Brazil, Denmark and Britain. A significant increase in pilot numbers will be required in 2012 to meet the airline’s growth plans. The intake of new pilots for Ground School are scheduled for May, and thereafter anticipated as July, September and November 2012.

Rishworth Aviation, the leading aviation recruiter in Asia, has been working with Skymark since 2002. “Rishworth Aviation is proud to have been working with Skymark Airlines for nearly a decade, and is delighted to partner an airline with such exciting growth plans”, said Rishworth Aviation’s Regional Director Liz Loveridge. "We are also delighted to be supported locally in Japan by Tsutomu Terashima, a more than 30 year veteran of the North Asia aviation industry."
